AH Guest Writer: What Do You Mean When You Use The Word “God”? – Part 4

(Self- Realization, Enlightenment, Awakening)

Part 4 is the last article in this series. If you have not read the others, I urge you to do so before reading this one. Each part builds upon the previous articles,so please read them in the order in which they were written.

In Part 3 we asked, “Why is there so much suffering?” I explained that adversity is a natural part of physical life and that a great deal of suffering is caused by our mistaken belief that adversity should not exist. In my opinion, however, the main reason for suffering is lack of accurate knowledge.

Accurate knowledge of what? Of the most important subjects in our lives: the nature of God, energy, the Universal Laws, the nature of the world in which we live and our true identity.

A Brief Review…

In Part 1, I described the Transcendent God (the Absolute) that is independent of Its creation and told you it is spaceless, timeless, motionless, massless and devoid of attributes. Further, I explained that the expressive aspect that flows from the Transcendent God is the Immanent God.

Everything that exists — from the solar system to microscopic and sub-microscopic particles — comes “out of” the expressive Immanent God. Religious, spiritual and metaphysical teachings call this aspect Spirit or Consciousness. Science calls it energy. No matter what you call it, everything that exists, regardless of its form,is an expression, a part, an aspect, a unit, of the ONE God – including us.

So Who Are We…Really?

In Part 2, I referred to the quote by Jesuit priest, philosopher, and geologist, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, “We are spiritual beings having a human experience.“ I agreed, and said that we are also multi-dimensional beings – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual — and the physical, mental and emotional are part of our
humanity, while the spiritual is our “real” Self.

Even though millions of people are familiar with de Chardin’s quote, most of them still “lead lives of quiet desperation,” as 19th century philosopher, Henry David Thoreau, wrote years ago. No doubt, this is because few people know and understand that they are Infinite Spiritual Beings.

You’ll find a great deal of information on the subjects I refer to at the beginning of this article (the nature of God, energy, the Universal Laws, the nature of the world in which we live and our true identity) in my books, “Vibrational Harmony” – The Real Secret of Success, Health and Happiness” and “Loving the Game of Life – Discovering Who You Are And Why You Are Here.” The latter book was written specifically to explain your true identity.

It contains so much verifiable information from so many respected sources — philosophy, psychology, spiritual teachings, metaphysics, physics and quantum physics — that you have enough reasons to believe who-you-really-are and why you are here. (Once you have the knowledge, you need repeat, reinforce and reflect upon it, because the 3rd dimension denies the truth.)

How Consciousness Expresses Through Form

The expressive Immanent aspect of God possesses the attributes of omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence. As this aspect — which I am calling “Consciousness” –expresses through each form, it expresses according to the abilities and limitations of that form.

Thus, Consciousness expressing through a rock has very little ability to express; expressing through a flower, Consciousness has greater ability; expressing through an ant or bee, even more; expressing through our animal friends, much more.

All forms through which Consciousness expresses are guided by “instinct.” Instinct causes a sunflower to turn to face the sun; instinct causes ants to create “villages” and bees to pollinate plants and build hives; instinct causes salmon to return home to spawn, in spite of huge obstacles.

Consciousness continues expressing through higher and higher forms as it moves up the evolutionary ladder, until we come “man.”

Man also has instinct, but it is no longer his sole guide, for he has been given “reason” (the ability to use his/her mind accurately). Men and women who evolve spiritually have a refined intuition – a combination of instinct and reason – that allows the Immanent God (Consciousness) to express through them with greater abilities and fewer limitations. How great and how limited depends upon the level of knowledge and awareness of each individual.

About Being “Awake”

Only humans, God’s highest creations, are created in the image and likeness of the Creator. Only humans are “Infinite Divine Beings” at their core and essence, with the ability to merge with the Consciousness of their “real” Self. Only humans can know their true identity and what life on planet earth represents. When humans know
this AND also experience themselves AS their true Self, they are “Awake,” Enlightened,” Self-Realized.”

Besides Buddha, Moses, Jesus, Mohammed, Paramahansa Yogananda and Sai Baba, there are others who achieve this level of Consciousness while still in their physical body. Though the percentage of people who are fully Awake is small, they exist…and you may even know some of them.

I used to wish I were one of them…until I was told in meditation (by my Self), that my spiritual awakening is progressing well, and I cannot be fully awake…yet. Once I am fully awake, I will not be able to teach what I teach or help people reprogram their subconscious mind. If I was fully awake the necessary beliefs, thoughts,
concepts, techniques, etc., could not even exist in my Consciousness. Since teaching what I teach is my purpose and mission, I understand the message.

It is still my aspiration to be Self-Realized in this lifetime, but since I know my true identity, I am able to enjoy my human experience and appreciate my spiritual journey.

Some Thoughts To Help You Remember Who You Are Hafiz, 14th century mystic and poet, said it this way: “Everyone is God speaking. Why not be polite and listen to Him?”

Sri Sathya Sai Baba (1926 –2011), Indian spiritual leader with millions of followers all over the world: “I am God. And you, too, are God. The only difference between you and me is that while I am aware of it, you are completely unaware.”

Dr. Deepak Chopra, co-founder of Chopra Center for Well being, speaker and author of more than 60 books on mind-body healing and spirituality: “Each of us is here to discover our true Self — that essentially we are spiritual beings who have taken manifestation in physical form.”

Roy Eugene Davis, Spiritual leader of The Center for Spiritual Awareness, and direct disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda: “As an immortal, pure-conscious unit of Supreme Consciousness, your potential to be fully awake and freely expressive is unlimited.”

One of my comparisons of humanity’s relationship to God is: “We are to the Creator like drops of water are to the lake, or waves are to the ocean — individualized units of the whole.”

I was pleased to see how similar this is to Paramahansa Yogananda’s quote: “The wave is the same as the ocean, though it is not the whole ocean. So each wave of creation is a part of the eternal Ocean of Spirit.”

The question below may have originated with Hermes, but people are more familiar with it from the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, first stated by a Psalmist and then by Jesus: “Know ye not that ye are Gods?”

Why Is It Important To Know Who-You-Really-Are?

If everyone knew the truth – that we are all Infinite Divine Beings, aspects of God – would there be so much suffering and so much fear, anger and hatred in our world? Of course not.

Though spiritually evolved people are not exempt from adversity, their faith and belief that “if God brings you to it, He will bring you through it” sustains and comforts them, regardless of what they are faced with.

Nor do Self-Realized (Awake, Enlightened) people escape adversity; as long as we are in physical form, adversity is part of life. However, because Self-Realized people know they can never die, and because they understand what Einstein meant when he said, “Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one,” their internal
state remains tranquil, regardless of outer conditions. Also, because they identify with their spiritual Self, they are able to transcend and transform many 3rd dimensional limitations.

If everyone knew that we are all part of the one Creator, we would no more want to harm “another” than to harm ourselves – because we would know that we are a part of everyone, and everyone is a part of us. If everyone knew they are immortal, would they fear death? Or fear anything, for that matter? And if everyone knew their body
is a temple for their Soul would they mistreat their body as many people do? The answer to all the questions is “Of course not.”

Wouldn’t that make this physical world a better place?

Closing Thoughts

Our human experience includes a spiritual journey, for our ultimate purpose is to become “Awake” (Enlightened, Self-Realized). When we merge our human Consciousness with our Self we not only create a more fulfilling human experience, we expand in Consciousness. With that expansion in Consciousness, we can transform, and even transcend, many of the limitations and restrictions of this dimension.

However, we can’t just “wish” ourselves to become Awake — nor can we simply pray and meditate for this to happen. This extraordinary state of fully expanded Consciousness requires more from us. We need knowledge; we need to reflect on what we learn…and we need to choose our identification.

You can identify with your “human self” or your “Spiritual Self.” When you identify with the Infinite Divine Being that you really are, you are also identifying with the unity and limitlessness of the higher dimensions.

Depending on your identification, you can have a human experience that is marred by frustration, struggle and suffering OR one that is filled with joy, appreciation and what some people “miracles.” The choice is yours.
